Lovett Honored as Outstanding Contributor

Leslie Lovett received the Outstanding Contributor Award for Pierpont Community & Technical College at the Joint Annual Conference of the West Virginia Association for Developmental Education and West Virginia Community College Association held in October at Oglebay Resort and Conference Center.

Each community college in the state recognized one person from its faculty or staff who made outstanding contributions to his or her campus. Pierpont award winners are chosen by a review committee from those nominated by their peers.

"Leslie has been very involved and has made a positive impact on our campus and also at the state level," said Jennifer Weist, Pierpont's Assistant Vice President for Administration. "The faculty, staff and administration of Pierpont Community & Technical College applaud Professor Lovett for her accomplishments. We are pleased to have someone who has worked so diligently on behalf of our institution recognized for her service and leadership."

Lovett is a Pierpont professor and the Clinical Education Coordinator for the long-standing Medical Laboratory Technology program. She played a vital role in the development of one of Pierpont's newest programs, the Laboratory Assistant Certificate program. She serves as the faculty representative on the newly formed Pierpont Board of Governors. In 2005, she received the Paul E. Edwards Outstanding Teacher Award, and in 2007 she received the Excellence in Academic Advising Award. She resides with her husband Ray and family in Morgantown.

"My time at Pierpont has been extremely rewarding. I am thrilled to be able to continually play a part in student achievement and success. I am appreciative for the opportunities to participate in leadership roles which promote both Pierpont and West Virginia community college education," Lovett said.

Since 2005 Lovett has served as Pierpont's representative for the West Virginia Advisory Council of Faculty (ACF). Serving as ACF president and secretary during her tenure, she has kept both the Faculty Assembly representatives and the entire faculty of Pierpont informed and has encouraged participation in the legislative process. Lovett also represents Pierpont on the state level as an active member of the West Virginia Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (WVSCLS). Her leadership roles in the society have included, serving as a member of the Board of Director and secretary, and she currently is chair of the political action committee (PAC) and membership committee. For her participation in society activities, Lovett was awarded WVSCLS Omicron Sigma Awards in 1999 and 2000; American Society for Clinical Laboratory (ASCLS) Omicron Sigma National Awards in 1997, 2003, 2004 and 2005; and was nominated for the 2007 ASCLS Member of the Year Award.
