A Fairmont State University student has been named as a member of the flute section of the College Band Directors National Conference Small College Intercollegiate Band.

When the Town & Gown Youth Company presents "RENT School Edition" in January, the all-star high school student cast will be one of the first in the nation performing the rock musical.

During the West Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects' 2008 design awards competition, a jury of architects, comprised of members of the organization's scholarship committee, selected two Fairmont State University student projects for recognition and commended the body of work represented by all of the students.

The Fairmont State Foundation, Inc., has received more than $57,000 in state tax credits through the West Virginia Development Office Neighborhood Investment Program to offer special giving incentives while raising money for student scholarships.

Sherrie Strawderman, Executive Secretary to the President of Fairmont State University, has been named the 2008 Classified Employee of the Year for Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College.

A reception to honor JoAnn Lough for her service to Fairmont State University and the community will be held Sunday, Dec. 7, at 5 p.m. in the reception area of the Ruth Ann Musick Library immediately following the Masquers/Town and Gown production of "Scrooge! The Musical."

During the "Falcon Project," planned for Dec. 10 on the Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College main campus, students will learn the secrets of the IRS Criminal Investigation Division and will gain a head start on their career.

More than 35 students will participate in Winter Commencement for Pierpont Community & Technical College. The ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at the Feaster Center. A reception in the Feaster Center will immediately follow the ceremony.
