WVACTE Spring Meeting
February 23, 2006

- The meeting was called to order by Budd Sapp at 5:00 PM.
- Minutes from the spring meeting were read by Roxann Humbert
- Group approved the minutes as read..
- The Treasurer's Report was given by Cindy Kelley. Before
expenses for this meeting, WVACTE holds a balance of $13,351.00.
- Sally Digman approved and Cindy Gissy seconded. The group
accepted the treasurer's report.
- Budd indicated that he submitted
the AACTE Report on number of member institutions in WV.
- Budd announced he is also
president of WVASCD. The treasurer for this group did not cash
checks for two years
and so we are no longer receiving dues frm National. ASCD
contacted Budd about an attempt to visit WV to "jump-start" WVASCD but
there hasn't been any follow-up from ASCD yet.
- Real Life Issues Curriculum
Infusion from Illinois is a brochure shared with the group from the
AACTE ACSR (Advisory Council for State Representatives) meeting in San
Diego
and included a section on the NCATE 4 Diversity Standard that may be of
benefit to WVACTE institutions
- ECS (Education Commission of the
States) in conjunction with ACRS
Summer Leadership Institute Meeting in Minneapolis - July 8-10.
The group agreed we
should send members??
- Fall Meeting suggestions:
- Change in the SPA review process
- TEAC wanted to see if WVACTE would sponsor SPAs like we did in the
past? SPAS requested included: Elementary, ACEI,
CEC, NCSS, NCTM, NCTE, AAPHERD, NSTA, Music CARS. Cindy suggested we
send out a survey to see what areas folks wanted SPA reviews in and
then plan accordingly.
- Deep and meaningful technology
integration of 21st century skills in WV schools - Try to find a
speaker who can talk about 21st Century Skills.
- Proposed date of meeting Oct.
5-6, 2006 - do two SPAs and then have 21st Century Speaker.ACEI, CEC,
NCSS - Sharon will look into these three SPAs. Sally at salem
will do Math and PE, Sally Digman will do Music, NCTE, NSTA. Don
suggested that if we only have a couple of hours for each that they
focus on the assessment piece. Cindy Kelly will try to find a
21st Century Speaker.
- Proposed meeting location -
Check Marriott of Embassy. Samantha - Roxann will call her at
Embassy to
check on rooms.
- Spring Meeting
- The group decided to hold the next meeting on Feb. 22-23, 2007 at either the
Radisson in Morgantown or the Stonewall Resort and Conference center
depending on availability and cost.
- Cindy Kelly moved to ajourn and Sharon Smith seconded.
- The meeting adjourned at 5:45 PM.
