Discussion: The
following points were discussed:
- President Budd Sapp called the meeting to order and distributed
the agenda. He explained why the regularly scheduled meeting was
cancelled: only a very few members were planning to attend due to
prior reservations for the national AACTE meeting. Since most of
the institutions were planning to attend the 21st Century Professional
Development meeting scheduled for March 1-2 in Charleston, this
provided an opportune time to reschedule the meeting.
- Minutes from the previous meeting were read. Cindy Gissy moved
and Rudy Pauley seconded their approval.
- Treasurer Cindy Kelly was attending another conference, so the
balance reported had not been updated from the previous meeting - $11,
403.45.
- President Sapp then presented some information from the annual
AACTE business meeting he attended Feb. 25, 2007. Handouts of the
meeting were distributed. The most notable point was the
discussion and ensuing vote on AACTE’s support for one or more than one
accrediting agency. Jo Pennington reported the vote was 158 - For
one accrediting body and 151- Against. The group discussed
possible reasons for such a close vote noting that limited information
was sent to members prior to the meeting.
- President Sapp then asked for ideas for the Fall Business
meeting. Jo Pennington suggested a follow-up on the 21st Century
Professional Development initiative. President Sapp suggested a
showcase of our 21st Century projects. He also noted that we had
to postpone the e-Mission and Ruby Payne electronic classroom
management simulation with Nancy Sturm from the spring meeting, and
wasn’t sure, but he could try to reschedule that to go along with a
21st Century theme. Cindy Gissy graciously offered
WVU-Parkersburg as a location to host the event. A date in
October not in conflict with major sporting events is being
discussed. The next meeting is TBA. Please check emails for
further information.
- With no further business, Rudy Pauley moved to adjourn, and Cindy
Gissy seconded the motion.
Respectfully
submitted,
Sharon L. Smith
