GEAR UP Outcomes
- Cohort middle and high schools will develop on-going methods to ensure that all students have access to rigorous courses that prepare them for college.
- Through current West Virginia educational initiatives, the review of middle and high school courses to ensure academic rigor and appropriate college preparation will be enhanced.
- Early assessment and tutorial interventions will be implemented, evaluated, and modified to provide services to at-risk students in a timely manner.
- Fairmont State, the Local Educational Agencies, and our Partners will work collaboratively in providing students and parents with early information about college options, required courses, and financial aid (including providing students with 21st Century Scholar Certificates). These annual events and activities will automatically be incorporated as standard operating procedures into our school systems.
- Effective parent intervention strategies and activities will result in increased parent involvement in planning and preparing their children for college.
- Mentoring, counseling, tutoring, and other support services will be offered as a regular part of the educational process and result in better college preparation, higher expectations, and improved self-esteem among our youth.
- Improved coordinated efforts between Fairmont State, the Local Educational Agencies, business and community Partners, and West Virginia State agencies will result in the provision of more effective and efficient staff development and teacher training activities.
- Strengthened Partnerships will result in a united vision and long-lasting and enduring collaborative efforts to sustain the momentum initiated through and beyond GEAR UP funding.
- Strengthened local and State collaboration of efforts will reinforce the value of such interventions and will serve as encouragement and justification for continued State and local support to sustain and advance what has been achieved through GEAR UP funding.
- Research, educational data, and effective evaluation models will be standardized and incorporated into all GEAR UP activities and programs to ensure the provision of quality academic and support services to cohort students.
Long-term early intervention models will be implemented, evaluated, and modified as needed to provide after-school, weekend, and summer study and enrichment programs.
