Advanced Integrated Laboratory
Plan of Procedure Grading Rubric
The Plan of Procedure must be completed before a student/group is allowed to begin any project. The Plan of Procedure may be resubmitted once, within 5 days of the initial grade being posted online.
Section 1
Before getting into a lab you must have no deficiencies in section 1. If there are any deficiencies you will not be allowed in lab and a 5% overall grade reduction will occur .
Section 2 is very important for the final lab report. If it is done correctly in the Plan of Procedure, the time required to write your final report will be greatly reduced. We are willing to check the formatting and English in the Plan of Procedure out of the goodness of our hearts. If it is poorly written we are not going to bother.
SECTION 1 - Plan of Procedure |

| Pre-lab preparation |
| All chemicals and all glassware have been located, fetched and put into bins; needed intruments have been verified to be in working condition (check with faculty member in charge of instrument), student wears appropriate clothing to start lab work (no sandals, long pants, safety glasses, hair tied back) | ||
Outline |
Check here if deficient |
report includes an outline with the list of ideas in a logical order; thoughts in the report are expressed in a linear fashion; one idea (outline entry) per paragraph |
Abstract. Must be your own work, you can not copy this part from your partner |
Check here if deficient |
abstract is a succinct summary |
goal of the experiment is clearly stated |
experimental technique(s) are clearly described |
results (using blank spaces) are stated. |
Background/Introduction . Must be your own work, you can not copy this part from your partner |

statement and purpose of planned experiment |
review of prior experimental results (at FSC or in the literature, cited properly) as appropriate. If you are repeating an experiment from the literature you must let us know and give their results. |
discussion of relevant theoretical principles (with equations) This should include how all calculations will be accomplished. Appropriate equations given and derived if necessary |
referenced source for derivation of equations |
chemical reaction equation(s) shown |
explanation of how each recorded datum is to be used |
Safety. This part can be the same for both partners |

chemical structures and corresponding names are shown in table format |
safety precautions summarized and explained for hazardous compounds |
Safety data is complete, accurate and includes references. |
physical properties for all chemicals listed (color, phase at room temperature, bp. for liquids, mp. for solids) |
Experimental details. This part can be the same for both partners. |

concise, complete explanation of planned experimental procedure |
outline describing how tasks will be distributed among team members and among days allotted to the project (it is up to the instructor to determine if you get sufficient work accomplished) |
All specific details, including recipes for making solutions of desired concentrations. |
useful and clear data entry form(s) indicating all information that needs to be recorded during the experiment |
